HVD Flashfire Arena Circuit

February 22, 2015

The Flashfire Arena Circuit, a Car Wars e-book published in the late 1990s by High Velocity Duelling (HVD), has been offline since the early 2000s. The supplement has been resurrected and is now available in the SWAT HQ Salvage Yard.

The original version of the Flashfire Arena Circuit was constructed on a frames-based Web site. The SWAT HQ Salvage Yard version of the supplement does not use frames.

SJ Games Revisions to Car Wars HQ

January 4, 2015

A few months ago, Steve Jackson Games revised the Official Car Wars Web site (Car Wars HQ) with new graphics to promote Car Wars Sixth Edition that is under development.

As a result of these changes, several hyperlinks to areas of Car Wars HQ no longer work.

Several files have also been removed from Car Wars HQ. The AADA News sections from the early issues Pyramid Magazine are no longer on the SJ Games Web site.

The Autoduel Quarterly HTML Archive is also no longer available. Links to the Autoduel Quarterly HTML Archive now direct site visitors to the Autoduel Quarterly PDF Archive available for purchase on Warehouse 23.

SWAT Interstate ’76 Music Index

August 27, 2014

The SWAT Interstate ’76 Music Index is now online. This Microsoft Excel document lists the tracks for all of the music produced for Interstate ’76 from the following sources.

* Interstate ’76
* Interstate ’76 Gold Edition
* Interstate ’76 Nitro Pack
* Interstate ’76 Original Game Soundtrack
* Bullmark Interstate ’76 Demo CD

Several of the pieces of music from Interstate ’76 are presented on the above sources with different names and variable lengths. The file attempts to identify those tracks with multiple titles.

The spreadsheet also lists tracks for SWAT’s Interstate ’76 Never Get of the Car Mix, a comprehensive track listing of game music and cutscene dialogue using tracks from the sources above. The Never Get of the Car Mix is over 60 minutes in length.

Cutscene dialogue audio files were created by converting the original Smacker video files to WAV audio files.

The Never Get of the Car Mix uses the longest versions of tracks that have multiple names.

Automotive Combat Games and TurboFire

June 12, 2014

The late Aaron Allston wrote one of the best comments regarding automotive combat tabletop games in 1984. This paragraph also applies to fiction, movies and other types of automotive combat media.

“Face facts. Auto combat games are a lot of fun. Better than cruising around in your Lamborghini Countach must be cruising in the Countach with the machine-gun under the hood — it’s not only beautiful and monstrously fast, it’s lethal. The American Dream, with beltfed ammo.”

— Aaron Allston, TurboFire, 1984, page 2.
